Challenge: Various Disabilities

Website: www.facebook.com/pages/The-Funky-Turtles

The Funky Turtles hatched in late 2002 as a Recreation & Social Support Program for young adults with a disability living in Ballarat.

This program is delivered by Pinarc Support Services, a disability agency based in Ballarat, committed to making a positive difference to the lives of people with a disability by providing opportunities for them to maximize their potential. What started out as a simple idea of making music together once a fortnight, soon blossomed and then snowballed into a fully fledged rock band with serious dreams of fame and glory.

Over the next three years the band underwent several changes to its membership and focus but several core members remained and their energy and commitment to writing and performing original music from their unique perspective continued to strengthen.

The Funky Turtles are a collective of 21 artists & musicians who have performed at both local and state level

Since the beginning of 2007 The Funky Turtles have become a stand-alone project of Pinarc. The organisation has invested in the band by providing them with a space and personnel and the group now meets once a week for six hours to rehearse, write and dream. This has allowed the Turtles to focus their energy and fulfill their desire to take their music to a far more professional level.
