Challenge: Vision Impaired

"Those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music."

Unique, passionate, driven, and unusual seems to sum Emily Buresh up quite nicely.

Emily is a self taught artist, singer, dancer, designer, and all around create spirit. She adds "I’ve been dancing and singing ever since I was in the crib and began to draw when I was about three years old. Throughout the years, I’ve taken classes in dance, music, and art. I obtained my Bachelor’s of Arts from the University of Vermont focusing on Studio Art and Art History."

Beyond college, Emily has studied graphic design, business, voice, and grant writing which she says is a skill any artist should have.

Emily has been a Goth/Punk/Rocker chic since she first laid eyes on Cyndi Lauper and Lydia Deets.

Emily is vision impaired or legally blind, she adds "depending on what makes sense to you."

She says "The fact is, I have bad eyesight. Yes, I was born with it. No, until Google makes a self driving car I can’t drive. Yes, people all look fabulous to me. I describe what I see similar to a Monet painting though the world isn’t that blurry."

Emily says she is blessed to have the eyesight that I do. She adds "My condition could be fatal or leave me without any sight. Each day I wake up, I thank God that I’m here and I can see!"

When Emily was younger and beginning to dress punk-like, she wore mismatched earrings because that was in fashion. She says "A few people came up to me asking if I knew my earrings didn’t match since they didn’t think I could see them, I said 'Duh, that’s the style…' They clearly had no sense of fashion."

Emily says the older she grew, the more she was drawn into the Goth scene. She says "Beautifully dark, intellectual, steeped in music and pain. That’s how to live it up in high school! I quickly found that being a unique spirit wasn’t just a phase and over the years have honed my free spiritedness."

Most recently, it dawned on Emily like a brick between the eyes, which she adds, hurt by the way. I am an artist and a singer! This is why I was put on this earth, not only to create but to inspire others.
