Daniel Segres

Location: Wilson, NC

Challenge: Cerebral Palsy/Epilepsy

Daniel Segres is a young drummer from Wilson, North Carolina. He started playing drums aged 2. He says "It was natural attraction to drums."

Daniel is currently working with Dom Famularo and learning how to adjust his drum set to help him play better with his range of motion limitations, as well as speed and control.

Daniel plays at his church occasionally and loves jamming with friends at his home. Daniel says "My mother was watching a cable show that highlighted kids abilities and developing talents. The show featured David Frangioni. David has a drum museum and non profit. My mother left a comment on the non profit site asking for basic advice regarding how to determine whether I should consider drumming as a career or what. She was expecting a staff member to contact her if she was lucky. To all of our surprise, David himself contacted her and set-up a Skype meeting with us. David listen to me play, my story of being born with Cerebal Palsy and my love for drums. David put us in contact with Dom Famularo. Both are great guys. It really was a lucky break to get in touch with both. I am loving the sessions with Dom. I have improved so much".

Daniel is inspired by drummer Casey Cooper. His favourite music styles are: Pop, Rock, R&B, and Gospel. He says "I don't really have any drumming heros yet, but I am so grateful to David and Dom".

When asked about his biggest challenge as a drummer, Daniel says "The right side of my body has less range of motion and control than the left side. The Cerebral Palsy has impacted the right arm more than any thing else. Recently, Dom has taught me to arrange my drum set for my strengths, but before Dom's help I just focused, practiced the movements, and was determined to succeed".
