Challenge: Mental Health

Website: www.bipolarbears.com.au

The BiPolar Bears band is one of Australia's rock'n'roll institutions – playing their own brand of rock music and education about mental health to audiences for over 20 years.

Having a serious mental illness hasn’t held the band back. They have performed hundreds of gigs from Sydney Opera House to psych wards, the iconic Espy Hotel, St Kilda festival, Federation Square, Brisbane’s Powerhouse and gigs in just about every country town in Victoria.

"The band describe themselves as having a serious work ethic", says Adam, the band's bass player, "we work hard and play hard - we're about making great music and spreading a positive message".

The BiPolar Bears music speaks of the band member’s life and experiences, sometimes pure rock and at others a powerful expression of life’s challenges. Songs lyrics like "I’m not schizophrenic, I’m just paranoid, so why don’t you all, go take a Polaroid"

The Bears have collaborated on songwriting and performances with some of Australia’s iconic music artists including Tim Rogers (You Am I), Ross Hannaford (Daddy Cool), Pete Satchell (Dallas Crane), Russell Morris and of course our good friend Heidi Everett.

The Bears EP "So Real" features 5 original songs and is available through their website, online everywhere and in all good record stores.

The band consists of: Adam Pollock: vocals and bass, Dan McGuiness: vocals and guitar, Mick Seymour: drums.

They are available to play at your event, run workshops and discussions on mental health issues at your business, service or school, and play either amplified or unplugged.

The BiPolar Bears band is part of Wild@heART Community Arts, creating arts participation opportunities for people who experience disability or mental illness.
